Obituary for the late Mr George Jakovich

It was with surprise and deep regret that the wide circle of friends of the late Mr Jakovich learnt of his sudden death, which took place at his home at Erikin on Friday, August 14th.

Born in Jugoslavia in 1873, the deceased was married to Mary Jakovich in Solta, Dalmatia, in the year 1905, and with his young bride came to Western Australia in 1907. Following the selection of a farming block he, together with his wife, came to Bruce Rock in 1907, where with the other pioneers of the district, they carved their home from the virgin bush. Mr. Jakovich has been a true pioneer, and his unbounded faith in the land and district he claimed as his own, his friendly and upright disposition, gained him many friends.

Our district is the poorer for the loss of another one of her pioneers, his widow and son in the departure of a beloved husband and just father, and a great number of friends for the passing of one of nature’s gentlemen.

The funeral took place on Saturday afternoon, August 15th. An impressive service was conducted by the Rev. Father Smith at the Roman Catholic Church, after which the cortege proceeded to the Roman Catholic portion of the Bruce Rock cemetery where the last rites were administered by the Rev. Father Smith in the presence of a number of sorrowing relatives and friends.
